Note to reader: I am using this space and place to post parts of a new slip-fiction novel series I am working on, Left Brain Right, the story of a young girl who hears voices. Left-Brain excerpts will be from her care-takers’ point of view or the point of view of the friends and family around her, while right-brain excerpts will describe how she sees the situation. I will not be posting the whole story, but I will be posting practical tips when dealing with someone, or one’s own self, as they are going through traumatic, or not so traumatic, experiences.

How today’s story excerpt can help you:

Theme: Somedays you just have to wrap yourself in a bubble to protect and restore your soul.

In today’s story excerpt Michelle, the main character, journeys to the island of the Fire Fairies with her fear in tow.  In order to keep herself protected from the fire, she draws a force filed around herself.

Right Side

Meditation Session 11:

Fire Fairy Island

Cue the floating flute music.
Dim lights already in check.
Eyes closed, down into the darkness
I go.

Back to a blackened and charred island.
with hues of reds and gold
that glow like jack-o-lanterns
on all Hallows Eve.

Getting there by row boat,
her shadow of Fear in tow
landing on shores of ash
sweating from he heat.

Like many things in the Spirit World
Fire Fairies have not real physical form.
They make their homes in embers and flames
and only come out when curiosity is peaked.

Michelle had to be more careful
than her shadow of Fear,
who has no real form, and therefore,
could not be harmed by the sauna-like atmosphere.

Michelle remembered the book
that her psychologist gave her
and drew herself into a bubble,
a force filed, so to speak.

Which would protect her
from flames and sweltering heat
as they went on to find
the Fire Fairies.

Who would reveal to her,
the next steps she’d need to take
in order to find
her missing light.

“What are you doing?”
Asked her shadow of Fear.
“If I stay inside this radius
I’ll be safe and sound.”

“You’ll be stupid and naive”
Fear sounded back.
Michelle ignored him
and continued on.
