Chapter Introduction:

Yesterday the main character, Michelle, landed her magical boat upon Spirit island where she was told by a mysterious voice to climb and hike the mountain before her. Today we meet the person who that voice belongs to.

Old Man Time

“he, he, he, he, he
yo, ho, ho, ho, ho,
ah-he, eye-ya!”

Half-moon, pale-blue eyes
beamed out from behind
deep, sunken, crinkled
weathered, joy-filled face.

A cross-legged man
with a long, white beard,
and a hooded cloak,
looked own upon her

from a rock near by,
“A little tired?”
a familiar
rusty voice asked.

Still collapsed upon
a moss-covered rock
curiosity peeked
she asked the old man,

“Was that you I heard
when I first landed?”
From behind squinted eyes
more wrinkles formed.

“Look around. Do you see
anyone else here?”
Finally standing,
she looked around.

Rocks descended and
began to sprout trees
which went down to blend
into the sea.

No movement was seen,
except wind in trees,
small animals rustling,
and clouds blowing by.

Abruptly a voice
answered, “It’ just me,
Old Man Time here on
this Spirit Mountain.”

Standing up slowly
with help from a staff
he hobbled over
hand extended

towards Michelle he said,
“Let me help you find
the reason you came—
to find your way home.”
